I am so glad you are here
Hi! I’m Julia Oliver, RD, E-RYT.
Together, we can uncover and learn to listen to the body’s innate wisdom that will support living your fullest life.
My home is in the blue ridge mountains outside of Roanoke, Virginia. I grew up around more cows than people, and you could often find me with my family while lounging with our beloved pets, mushroom hunting, or hiking the nearby section of the Appalachian Trail.
This childhood ingrained a deep appreciation for nature, and I am always trying to find ways in my life to care more for our planet. My husband and I have been together since high school, and we have now planted roots in the D.C. metro area.
Our favorite activities lately have included hosting homemade pasta-making parties and traveling to mountains across the country in search of untouched snow!

Our Model
-
Health at Every Size as a movement and a community supports the right of every human to engage in health-promoting practices while honoring inherent size diversity and acknowledging the harm of weight discrimination in our culture. HAES® practitioners offer an alternative to the traditional ‘weight-centric’ approach in healthcare by rejecting the value society places on thinness and weight loss as markers of wellbeing.
-
Intuitive eating as developed by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch is a framework for breaking free from the diet mentality that pulls us away from our ability to trust our internal cues to guide choices around food. Through intuitive eating, you can reconnect with signals of hunger and fullness, develop the confidence to make satisfying and nourishing choices, and reclaim the brain space that was previously overtaken by food rules, food guilt, and diet culture noise.
-
A ‘non-diet’ or ‘anti-diet’ dietitian does not recommend intentional weight loss or reinforce the messages of diet culture. We provide nutrition counseling via practices that are evidence-based, and research has found that dieting will fail over 90% of the time and is not a practice that is sustainable for the human body.
We believe that using rules to ‘control’ food causes harm both mentally and physically rather than actually enhancing health as it is often portrayed. Dieting not only damages one’s relationship with food and body, but it also contributes to weight cycling (initial loss followed by weight regain), eating disorders, and disordered eating patterns. You can expect your non-diet dietitian to support your health and wellness goals without promoting behaviors that may sacrifice ultimate wellbeing.

I have advanced training in eating disorder nutrition therapy for adult and adolescent populations as well as experience guiding meditation, mindfulness, and yoga classes for those in the midst of recovery.

My Philosophy
I believe it is our birthright to eat intuitively and move in a way that honors our body’s unique needs and limitations.
The care you will receive while working with me will be weight inclusive, trauma-informed, grounded in the Health at Every Size® (HAES) movement, and aligned with the principles of Intuitive Eating. We will shed the damaging diet mentality and learn how your well-being does not have to come by manipulating your body size and at the expense of your mental health.
